Choice of Sarah Palin is truly appalling

Letter to the Editor
Friday, September 05, 2008

In his first major decision, John McCain insulted the country and his party when he chose former beauty queen Sarah "Barracuda" Palin as the Republican vice-presidential candidate. Is this a person we want to look into the eyes of Vladimir Putin? A person who counts her administrative talents as being the mayor of a town of just a few thousand?

Is this the person who might be the commander in chief of the greatest army in the world, and have a hand on the button that could destroy a good part of the world? A person who counts her military experience as having a son in the army and as commander of the Alaska National Guard for two years? A person who, the day after she was chosen as a candidate, was not out in the hustings but buying her daughter a cheerleader's uniform?

Female Republican congresswomen should be outraged at McCain's choice because many are hard-working, experienced legislators who have worked for years in the Republican interests, only to learn that a hockey mom usurped the possibility that they would be chosen.

This is a woman who is supposed to woo disappointed Hillary Clinton supporters with her ideology of anti-choice, anti-gay and anti-evolution, and who herself is under investigation for the firing of a county supervisor over her sister's divorce.

To paraphrase former Sen. Lloyd Bentsen's comment to vice-presidential candidate Dan Quayle, who tried to assume the mantle of JFK: "Gov. Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton!"

Lowell Greenbaum

(Lowell Greenbaum is chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party.)

It is very gracious that the Chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party is so concerned with the welfare of the Republican Party. If it were true, it would be unprecedented. He is right on so many levels. Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton... she is infinitely better! Thank God for that. Hillary Clinton is not who Republicans want as Vice-President... or President... or dog catcher. The Democratic Party had their chance to have Hillary as their nominee, and they said "HELL NO!" at the ballot box. The Democratic Party did not want Hillary Clinton as President, so why force another political party to accept her. It is good that Sarah Palin "is no Hillary Clinton" because no one in America wants anyone like Hillary Clinton.

It is strange how they denigrate Sarah Palin's connection with the everyday working family. If there is one person that knows what the American family wants and needs, it is Sarah Palin and we know she is a good choice because the opposing Party does not like her. If she were a bad choice, they would not have to attack her so vehemently. All they would have to do was to let her succumb to her weaknesses, but it does not look like that will happen, as she is much too strong of a candidate for that.

Nobody ever says this, but Sarah Palin accomplished more than Senator Barrack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton combined. Sarah Palin is the better choice by a wide margin. Even the Chairman cannot say why their candidate is better, all they can do is to attack the fact that Sarah Palin spent time with her daughter buying a cheerleading uniform. He attacks the fact that she is a down-to-earth woman/mother who clearly understands what is important in a family... something that the Inside-the-Beltway Washington Liberals do not understand at all... In fact, Chairman Greenbaum in his own words has proven the Democratic Party does not have a clue.

Here is another prime example of the Liberal agenda bad mouthing the troops that are fighting in Iraq. From the Thursday, December 15, 2005 printed edition of the Augusta Chronicle.

John Kerry's U.S. Hatred is Showing

Letter to the Editor
Wednesday, December 14, 2005

U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., recently charged that American soldiers are going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night and terrorizing innocent women and children. Mr. Kerry must either provide irrefutable evidence of such behavior by our soldiers, or turn himself over to the authorities so that he can be charged and tried for treason.

Never in the history of our country has the leader of the opposition party given such aid and comfort to the enemy. Surely the Justice Department can no longer stand by while this pathetic man hurts our loyal military men and women with his absurd claims.

Mr. Kerry's hatred for America is now laid bare for the world to see. May God have mercy on his soul.

Keith Shafer, Augusta

In this "Letter to the Editor", the differences between Conservatives and Liberals are easy to understand. Conservatives dislike this Letter to the Editor because of Kerry's slanderous comments of U.S. troops. Liberals dislike this Letter to the Editor because someone actually wrote the letter criticizing Kerry's slanderous comments.
